A first edition Charizard Pokémon card, issued in 1999, is set to be tokenized and auctioned on the Polygon chain
On December 7th, Polygon announced on platform X that a first edition holographic Charizard Pokémon card from 1999 will be tokenized through the Ethereum extension network, Polygon, and auctioned by the collectibles platform Courtyard. It is reported that this card will be securely stored in Brink's vault with an estimated value of up to $250,000. Marc Boiron, CEO of Polygon Labs added that this auction is not just about the Charizard card but also demonstrates how blockchain can completely change the world of collectibles. A representative from Polygon Labs revealed they purchased this card from a well-known seller and according to market data since 2020, similar first edition Charizard Pokémon cards have sold for approximately between $264,000 and $400,000.
