According to CoinDesk, Fidelity Digital Assets predicts that 2025 will be a turning point for Bitcoin adoption, with more countries, central banks, sovereign wealth funds and government treasuries expected to purchase Bitcoin to establish strategic reserves. The report points out that as inflation rises, currency depreciates and fiscal deficits expand, allocating Bitcoin may be better equipped to deal with macroeconomic headwinds. Fidelity analyst Matt Hogan suggests that as a strategic asset, Bitcoin could attract more countries to adopt an accumulation strategy even though some might secretly buy it in order not to push up market prices.

Currently the governments holding the most Bitcoins are those of the United States, China, UK, Ukraine Bhutan and El Salvador; most of these holdings were obtained through government seizures or recovered from criminal activities. In addition, the report mentions both US presidential candidate Donald Trump and Senator Cynthia Lummis support establishing national bitcoin reserves. If Lummis's "Bitcoin Act" proposed in 2024 is passed,it could prompt other countries to follow suit.Fidelity notes this political and financial maneuvering will further drive global adoption of Bitcoin.
