Rodeo Confirms Platform Shutdown as Prolonged NFT Market Weakness Limits User Growth

  • Rodeo shuts down after failing to reach scale as weak NFT demand forces platforms to exit and protect user assets.
  • Nifty Gateway and Rodeo exits show prolonged NFT downturn since 2022 with low volumes pushing marketplaces to close.
  • Rodeo sets an asset migration plan using Arweave and phased shutdown to give users time to move NFTs safely before closure.

Social NFT marketplace Rodeo has plans to shut down operations as pressure continues across the NFT sector. The closure follows Nifty Gateway’s recent shutdown announcement. Rodeo launched on Apple’s iOS store in March last year and targeted mainstream users. However, weak market conditions and slow growth forced the platform to exit.

The decision reflects broader stress across NFT marketplaces since the 2022 market crash. Trading activity has remained low despite brief price spikes. As a result, several platforms now struggle to sustain daily operations. Rodeo now joins a growing list of projects leaving the market.

Rodeo Fails to Reach Sustainable Scale

Rodeo entered the market with a social-focused NFT collecting model. The platform emphasized community interaction over pure trading. It encouraged creators and collectors to engage through posting and discovery. In addition, Rodeo simplified complex blockchain processes for non-crypto users.

Despite this approach, the platform did not grow fast enough. User numbers remained limited even as engagement stayed strong within a small group. Market weakness also reduced new user inflows. Consequently, Rodeo could not achieve the scale needed for long-term sustainability.

The closure closely followed Nifty Gateway’s exit plans. Both platforms rose during the early NFT boom. However, both now face the same market realities. Their exits highlight increasing consolidation across NFT marketplaces.

Asset Migration Plan and Shutdown Timeline

Rodeo has outlined a structured shutdown process to protect user assets. The platform will continue full operations until February 10. After that date, Rodeo will switch to read-only mode. The platform will fully shut down on March 10.

Users will receive options to preserve their digital assets. Rodeo will support media and metadata transfers using the Arweave blockchain storage network. In addition, the platform will provide an asset migration assistant. This tool will guide users through moving assets from Rodeo smart contracts.

These steps aim to limit disruption during the shutdown period. Users will retain access to their data during the transition window. The platform confirmed it will provide clear guidance throughout the process.

NFT Market Pressure Drives Platform Exits

Rodeo shutdown is indicative of a set of more fundamental issues in the NFT market. Earlier last year, Solsniper shut down its NFT marketplace after more than three years of operation. The NFT trading was at its peak at the beginning of 2022 during the bigger hype of crypto. NFTs based on Ethereum registered almost $5 billion in trade volume at that time. Since that time, activity has decreased drastically.

As of January 2026, the trading volume of Ethereum NFT had declined to approximately $159 million. Rebounds, which were experienced in the short term, did not bring about sustained demand. As a result, platform revenues continued to drop across the sector. Last year, OpenSea formally asked the SEC to exclude NFT marketplaces from federal exchange regulations.

Nifty Gateway also updated its shutdown timeline this week. The platform extended its asset migration deadline to April 23. It also plans to introduce a bulk withdrawal tool for users with multiple NFTs. Together, these developments show how NFT platforms now prioritize orderly exits amid ongoing market weakness.
