ECB’s Rehn Warns of “Genuine Concern” Inflation May Fall Short, Highlights Strong Euro and Chinese Imports
ECB Official Warns of Potential for Lower Eurozone Inflation
Olli Rehn, a member of the European Central Bank's Governing Council and Governor of the Bank of Finland, cautioned on Friday that there is now a significant possibility that inflation in the euro area could fall short of expectations. He attributed this risk to weakening underlying price trends, a slowdown in wage growth, and downward pressures from both the exchange rate and international trade.
In a blog post published on the central bank’s website, Rehn described the latest inflation figures from January as an early indication that inflation may be lower than previously anticipated. He emphasized that the recent moderation in core inflation helps to ease concerns about persistent price increases.
