Strong Demand for Drug Components: West Pharma Expects Profits to Exceed Expectations in 2026
Feature: Focus on Q4 2025 US Stock Financial Reports
West Pharmaceutical announced on Thursday that, driven by strong demand for its patented products, the company’s fourth-quarter performance exceeded market expectations and it forecasts full-year profit in 2026 will surpass Wall Street estimates. The company’s products include syringes and cartridges for injectable drugs.
The shares of this Pennsylvania-based company rose 3.6% in pre-market trading.
The surging demand for new diabetes and obesity treatments, including Novo Nordisk's Ozempic, Wegovy, and Eli Lilly's Mounjaro, is expected to continue benefiting medical device manufacturers like West Pharmaceutical. The company provides core components for the injection pens of these drugs.
According to data from London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), the company currently expects adjusted earnings per share for 2026 to be $7.85 to $8.20, higher than analysts’ forecast of $7.78.
Adjusted earnings per share for the first quarter are expected to be $1.65 to $1.70, with analysts expecting $1.65.
Full-year revenue is expected to be between $3.22 billion and $3.28 billion, compared with analysts’ average expectation of $3.25 billion.
West Pharmaceutical stated that the revenue forecast already includes income related to the sale of its SmartDose 3.5ml wearable injector system to AbbVie, a deal expected to be completed by mid-2026.
Meanwhile, the company’s fourth-quarter adjusted earnings per share were $2.04, exceeding the expected $1.83.
Quarterly total revenue was $805 million, higher than the expected $794.38 million.
The revenue of the patented products division, which accounts for more than half of the company's total revenue, reached $661.8 million, exceeding the expected $652.95 million.
The contract manufactured products division's quarterly sales increased by 6.2% year-on-year to $143.2 million, slightly below the expected $143.3 million. This division benefited from rising demand for self-injection devices for obesity and diabetes, though a decline in sales of medical diagnostic devices partially offset this growth.
