What Happened?

Shares of aerospace and defense company Howmet (NYSE:HWM) jumped 8.9% in the morning session after it reported fourth-quarter 2025 financial results that surpassed analyst expectations and provided a strong revenue forecast for the upcoming quarter. The company reported revenue of $2.17 billion for the quarter, a 14.6% increase from the previous year, beating Wall Street's estimates. The growth was driven by a solid performance in its Engine Products segment. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $1.05, which was 8.7% ahead of consensus forecasts and marked a nearly 42% jump compared to the same period last year. While the company's operating margin was flat year-over-year, its free cash flow margin saw a notable increase from 20% to 24.4%. Looking ahead, Howmet issued revenue guidance for the first quarter of 2026 that was 3.5% above analyst expectations, though its full-year earnings forecast was in line with consensus.

Is now the time to buy Howmet?

What Is The Market Telling Us

Howmet’s shares are not very volatile and have only had 8 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful, although it might not be something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 6 days ago when the stock gained 6.2% on the news that the broader market rebounded from a tech-driven sell-off, with investors taking the opportunity to buy stocks at lower prices. This rally was fueled by a recovery in technology stocks and a significant bounce in Bitcoin, which stabilized after losing over half its value from its October peak. Investor sentiment was also lifted by a surprising improvement in U.S. consumer sentiment and the realization that massive AI-related capital expenditure, such as Amazon's planned $200 billion, directly benefits chipmakers like Nvidia and Broadcom. These "pick-and-shovel" winners jumped as much as 7%, helping the S&P 500 edge back into positive territory for 2026. The highlight of the day was the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which surged and crossed the historic 50,000 threshold for the first time.

Howmet is up 17.8% since the beginning of the year, and at $249.41 per share, has set a new 52-week high. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Howmet’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $8,819.

Microsoft, Alphabet, Coca-Cola, Monster Beverage—all began as under-the-radar growth stories riding a massive trend. We’ve identified the next one: a profitable AI semiconductor play Wall Street is still overlooking.
