US Homebuilder Confidence Slips Amid Affordability Worries
Builder Confidence Declines Amid Ongoing Affordability Issues
Challenges such as steep housing price-to-income ratios and rising land and construction expenses have continued to weigh on the housing market, leading to a second consecutive monthly drop in builder sentiment at the beginning of the year. According to the latest National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI), confidence among builders of new single-family homes slipped by one point to 36 in February. NAHB representatives noted that as affordability remains a significant hurdle for buyers, builders are scaling back their sales expectations, which in turn is dampening overall consumer confidence in the economy.
