Nikkei Index May Rise as Investors Assess Tariff Developments

Media reports citing informed sources stated that the Trump administration is considering imposing new national security tariffs on six industries. Previously, U.S. President Trump said over the weekend that he would raise a new global tariff rate to 15%, aiming to replace several tariffs that were ruled illegal by the Supreme Court last week. Nikkei index futures on the Singapore Exchange rose 0.2% to 56,770 points. The USD/JPY was quoted at 154.69 yen, compared to 154.66 yen in New York on Monday night. The Nikkei index fell 1.1% last Friday to 56,825.70 points. The Japanese market was closed on Monday due to a holiday.
