Wartime: A Blessing for Financial Markets? – North America Midweek Market Recap
Market Sentiment Shifts Amid Global Uncertainty
After weeks of heightened anxiety, recent developments have sparked a surprisingly optimistic response in the markets, despite ongoing challenges. Since the start of 2026, investors have faced a complex environment shaped by negative influences such as escalating tariffs and persistent tensions in the Middle East, both of which have weighed heavily on risk assets.
Regarding tariffs, a significant turning point came when the Supreme Court blocked IEEPA tariffs. This decision proved beneficial for many leading exporters, as their overall tariff rates dropped to a standard 15%. This outcome is notably more favorable than the previously imposed rates of 30% to 50% on countries including China and India.
