Golden Ten Data reported on March 7 that Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Akazawa Ryosei, stated on Friday that as Japan and the United States prepare for a leaders' meeting later this month, he hopes the United States will not impose tariffs higher than the levels agreed upon last year. After about two hours of talks in Washington with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Luttig, Akazawa Ryosei said they also discussed the next round of joint business projects, as well as cooperation in strategically important areas such as energy, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence. As Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is set to meet with U.S. President Trump at the White House on March 19, it was stated that the two countries will continue to work closely together to ensure that Sanae Takaichi's visit achieves "fruitful results." The meeting between Akazawa Ryosei and Luttig took place about two weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Trump's comprehensive global tariffs.
