Pentagon Remains Unclear on Hormuz Strait Reopening
Top US military leaders stated on Friday that they are not ready to specify when the Strait of Hormuz might reopen, nor have they detailed the Pentagon’s strategy for achieving this. Since the outbreak of conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran on February 28, along with Iran’s subsequent counterattacks, only a small number of oil tankers have managed to navigate the strait.
Currently, approximately a quarter of the world’s traded crude oil and a fifth of global LNG exports are unable to depart from the Middle East Gulf due to the ongoing situation. Military officials emphasized that their immediate focus is on meeting current operational goals before considering President Donald Trump’s proposal to provide naval escorts for commercial vessels passing through the strait.
