The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) jointly issued guidance on how crypto assets and trading are subject to federal securities laws. The guidance introduces a token classification system and clarifies the legal applicability of activities such as staking, mining, airdrops, and wrapping. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins stated that most crypto assets do not fall under the category of securities. (CoinDesk)
