Golden Ten Data reported on March 19 that market strategist Karl Schamotta stated: The Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged and made relatively minor adjustments in its policy statement, indicating that officials plan to adhere to the long-standing monetary policy principle of "ignoring" the energy price shock currently sweeping the global economy. This consistent tone, combined with a series of new forecasts suggesting that economic growth will slow, employment will deteriorate, and inflation will be higher than in December, marks the clearest signal so far: the Federal Reserve led by Powell believes that rising energy prices will have a disruptive impact on the U.S. economy in the short term. As policymakers seem intent on resisting pressure to act in either direction, interest rate expectations remain stable across the front end of the yield curve, further boosting the dollar.
