FOMC maintains projection for a single rate cut this year: Commentary Following FOMC Meeting March 2026
Highlights from the Latest FOMC Meeting
The Federal Open Market Committee, as anticipated, decided to keep interest rates unchanged during its March 17-18 session. Once again, Governor Miran voted against the majority, advocating for a 0.25% rate reduction. The official statement from the FOMC featured only slight modifications, the most notable being the inclusion of a remark that the economic consequences of recent Middle East events remain unclear for the United States.
Amid this heightened uncertainty, Chair Powell emphasized that the updated Summary of Economic Projections should not be overinterpreted. Nevertheless, the revised forecasts offered a glimpse into the Committee’s current outlook. Powell also addressed questions about his own tenure during the press conference.
