Golden Ten Data reported on March 19 that Carsten Menke, Head of Research at Julius Baer, stated that only if the financial markets show a more pronounced risk-off sentiment amid the tense situation in the Middle East can gold truly shine. He pointed out that the reason why gold prices have been affected by the rebound of the US dollar and the rise in US bond yields is that the previous sharp increase was largely based on expectations of a depreciating US dollar. He added that those who bet on gold prices rising due to the depreciation of the US dollar have been on the wrong side of the trade since the war began. Julius Baer still maintains its established view of being optimistic on gold and neutral on silver.
