Golden Ten Data reported on March 23 that Investinglive analyst Justin Low stated that precious metals have been hit by multiple adverse factors, and the situation is becoming increasingly difficult. The first negative factor is a significant shift in the overall market outlook. For more than two years, precious metal prices have relied on the key upward driver of major central banks lowering interest rates. However, the situation has now completely reversed. With inflation concerns intensifying, central banks are now forced to quickly turn to raising interest rates. This is also a major change for trading sentiment in precious metals. The second influencing factor comes from the technical side: both gold and silver prices have fallen below their respective 100-day moving averages. In addition, the third factor is the increase in positions in bonds and stocks. Over the past year, precious metals have been a favored investment choice in leveraged trading. But when we see such large-scale market sell-offs, especially when these sell-offs seem likely to have an extremely adverse impact on the stock market, we must be highly alert to margin call requirements.

Rare in 25 years! The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield surpasses the S&P 500 earnings yield

The 10-year US Treasury yield has surpassed 5%, making bonds more attractive relative to stocks than at any point in the past 25 years. The earnings yield of stocks, as measured by the inverse of the S&P 500’s price-to-earnings ratio, is now lower than the 10-year US Treasury yield, resulting in a clear yield suppression effect on the stock market from bonds. According to the Shiller model, the S&P 500 may outperform bonds by only about 1% annually over the next decade. The 20-year paradigm of stocks outperforming bonds has officially come to an end.
