For the week ending March 21, initial jobless claims, adjusted for seasonal trends, reached 210,000—an increase of 5,000 compared to the previous week's unchanged total of 205,000.
The four-week average of initial claims dropped by 250, coming in at 210,500, down from the prior week's average of 210,750.
Looking at insured unemployment for the week ending March 14, the seasonally adjusted rate remained steady at 1.2 percent. The total number of people receiving unemployment benefits during that week was 1,819,000, which is 32,000 fewer than the revised figure from the week before.
