What Information Does the Oil Futures Curve Reveal?
Shifts in Brent Oil Futures Curve Following Iran Conflict
Analysts have examined whether the Brent oil futures curve has experienced notable changes before and after the recent conflict involving Iran. This inquiry comes as Brent crude prices surged from $70.75 per barrel on February 26 to $112.19 per barrel by March 20.
Janiv Shah, Vice President of Commodity Markets - Oil at Rystad Energy, explained to Rigzone that the shift has been considerable. Prior to the conflict, the futures curve displayed only a slight backwardation between the first and third months (M1-M3), with the possibility of moving into contango as market conditions evolved.
