Golden Ten Data reported on March 27 that on Friday, gold prices rose more than 1%, driven by a weaker US dollar and dip-buying. However, as surging energy prices heightened inflation concerns and fueled expectations of global interest rate hikes, gold prices are still set for the fourth consecutive week of decline. Since February 28, when the US and Israel launched military actions against Iran, gold prices have fallen by about 16%, while the US Dollar Index has surged over 2% during the same period. Tim Waterer, Chief Market Analyst at KCM Trade, said, “For weeks, gold has been seen as a liquid asset, with investors selling gold to cope with volatility in other markets and margin calls; but at current price levels, gold has grown more attractive as a 'value investment' for investors, which is why it has regained favor today.” “Nevertheless, hawkish central banks that remain alert to ongoing 'oil-driven inflation' continue to exert strong downward pressure on gold’s upward momentum, firmly capping any attempts at a rebound.”
