US Consumer Sentiment Drops in March
The University of Michigan reported on Friday that consumer sentiment in the United States declined in March compared to the previous month. The consumer confidence index saw a monthly drop of 5.8% and was down 6.5% from the same period last year, surpassing expert forecasts.
The measure of current economic conditions slipped by 1.4% from February and fell 12.5% year-over-year, reaching a value of 55.8. Meanwhile, the expectations index decreased by 8.7% month-over-month and 1.7% from March 2025, also settling at 55.8.
According to the report, individuals with moderate to high incomes and significant investments were particularly affected by rising fuel costs and unstable financial markets following recent tensions involving Iran.
