US Dollar Surges Past 160 Yen Mark

On Friday, the US dollar climbed above 160 yen, a level not seen since July 2024—the last time Japanese authorities stepped in to support their currency. The dollar advanced 0.22% against the yen, reaching 160.15, a threshold many analysts believe could prompt government action. Meanwhile, the dollar index rose 0.17% to 100.4, putting it on track for its largest monthly increase in nearly a year. Ongoing conflict in the Middle East has led investors to favor the US dollar as a safe haven over more traditional options like gold or government bonds.
