This joke refers to a white paper released today by Google’s quantum AI team. Google stated that in the future, the number of physical quantum bits required to break the 256-bit elliptic curve encryption protecting Bitcoin and other systems may drop below 500,000, which is about 20 times lower than previous estimates.
