Japan: Business climate sees slower improvement in March
Japan's Manufacturing Sector Shows Continued Progress
Japanese manufacturing maintained its upward momentum as the first quarter concluded, though the rate of improvement slowed. Factory production and incoming orders grew, but less robustly than in February, resulting in a more modest increase in employment. The survey highlighted that ongoing conflict in the Middle East intensified cost pressures, pushing expenses to their highest level in nearly two years. Meanwhile, manufacturers reported a decline in confidence regarding future output over the next year.
The headline S&P Global Japan Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index™ (PMI) reflects these trends in a single composite figure.
