Employment and Unemployment Trends in February 2026
During February 2026, there was a reduction in the number of people employed, while unemployment figures saw an increase. The count of individuals not participating in the labor force remained largely unchanged.
On a month-to-month comparison, employment dropped by 0.1% (29,000 fewer jobs), particularly among men and those aged 25 to 49. In contrast, employment rose for women and for people in the 15-24 and 50+ age brackets. As a result, the overall employment rate slipped to 62.4%, marking a decrease of 0.1 percentage points.
Unemployment grew by 2.7% (an increase of 36,000 people), impacting both genders and nearly all age groups. The exception was the 15-24 age group, which experienced a decline in unemployment. The unemployment rate climbed to 5.3%, up by 0.1 percentage points.
