BoC Summary of Governing Council discussions: Scheduled announcement date set for March 18, 2026
Governing Council Reviews Global Economic Trends
The Governing Council initiated its discussions by examining recent shifts in the international economy and their potential effects on future projections. Worldwide economic expansion remained steady at approximately 3%, aligning with forecasts from the January Monetary Policy Report.
Nonetheless, the outbreak of conflict in Iran has heightened uncertainty regarding the global economic outlook. The surge in energy prices is expected to drive inflation higher across various countries. Council members acknowledged that the influence of this conflict on both global growth and inflation will largely depend on how long it persists and whether it escalates throughout the Middle East.
