Russia plans to impose criminal liability for illegal cryptocurrency mining, with a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
According to ChainCatcher, Cryptopolitan reported that the Russian government has submitted a bill to the State Duma proposing criminal liability for illegal cryptocurrency mining activities, with penalties of up to five years in prison and fines of up to 2.5 million rubles (approximately 25,000 US dollars). Currently, around 50,000 individuals and legal entities are engaged in mining activities in Russia, but less than 1,500 have completed registration.
