Golden Ten Data, April 4th – According to a letter to the European Commission seen by Reuters on Saturday, the finance ministers of five EU member states have called for a tax on the “windfall profits” earned by energy companies as fuel prices surge due to the war in Iran. Finance ministers from Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Austria made the appeal in a joint letter, stating that such a move would send a signal that “we are united and capable of taking action.” It would also clearly convey that those profiting from the war must bear their fair share of responsibility in alleviating the burden on ordinary people.
