The questions raised by Federal Reserve examiners are intended to assess the level of stress within the private credit sector and its potential transmission to the broader financial system. Among a series of issues incorporated into routine regulatory procedures, the Federal Reserve is particularly focused on the loans that private credit funds obtain from banks. In favorable market conditions, such actions can amplify returns, making private credit funds more attractive; however, in adverse environments, they may expose banks to the risk of losses. The U.S. Treasury is also inquiring into the insurance sector’s exposure to private credit. (Bloomberg)
