The immediate response from the London Metal Exchange also reflected this situation; during early trading on Monday, copper prices fell by about 1.3%, while aluminum prices rose by approximately 0.9%. The most obvious sign of mounting pressure in the aluminum market is the widening spread on the London Metal Exchange (LME). The price difference between spot contracts and contracts for delivery in three months increased by 37% from Friday's level, reaching $91.50 per ton—its highest since 2007. This indicates growing demand from buyers for immediate delivery as they search for alternative sources of metal supply.
