I am honored to join you today as we mark the 75th anniversary of the Bundesverband deutscher Banken. When this organization first came into being, Europe was just beginning to recover from one of its darkest chapters and was on the threshold of a remarkable era defined by peace and prosperity.

Now, Europe finds itself at a crossroads, facing greater uncertainty about its future path than at any time in recent memory. Many of these challenges originate from outside our continent.

Looking back, historians will likely remember this era for its unyielding succession of crises: a global pandemic unlike any in a generation, swiftly followed by conflict on European soil, and further upheavals beyond.
