South Korea’s Central Bank Governor Emphasizes Flexible Policy Amid Global Uncertainty
Shin Hyun-song, the newly inaugurated governor of South Korea’s central bank, emphasized the importance of maintaining a careful and adaptable approach to monetary policy as the nation faces rising inflation and economic unpredictability linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
During his inaugural address, Governor Shin highlighted that the supply disruptions resulting from the Middle East conflict have heightened uncertainty regarding both inflation and economic growth. He stressed the need to prioritize both price and financial stability by adopting prudent and responsive monetary strategies.
Governor Shin also pointed out that the recent surge in oil prices, driven by the conflict involving Iran, has intensified inflationary pressures within the country.
