Kalshi fines three U.S. congressional candidates for betting on their own campaigns
BlockBeats News, on April 23, prediction market platform Kalshi recently fined three U.S. congressional candidates and suspended their access for five years because they violated rules by betting on the outcomes of their own campaigns.
The candidates involved are: Virginia Senate candidate Mark Moran, Minnesota House candidate Matt Klein, and Texas House candidate Ezekiel Enriquez.
This incident led to Mark Moran being fined $6,229 and required to return relevant trading profits; Matt Klein was fined $540; Ezekiel Enriquez was fined $784. All three have been banned from using the Kalshi platform for five years.
Afterwards, Moran claimed he deliberately violated the rules to expose potential platform corruption; Klein stated he tried it out of curiosity and has cooperated with the penalty. Kalshi stated that regardless of transaction size, any trades by candidates that can affect market outcomes are violations. Recently, both this platform and its competitor Polymarket have strengthened controls against insider trading.
