The results of a recent survey in Japan indicate that nearly 97% of Japanese companies report that heightened tensions in the Middle East have had a negative impact on their operations, mainly due to rising crude oil prices and supply chain instability. At the beginning of this month, Teikoku Databank conducted a questionnaire survey of 1,686 domestic companies, asking whether their business performance was affected by the situation in the Middle East. As many as 96.6% of respondents stated they experienced “negative impacts”. When asked how long elevated oil prices would need to persist before leading to a contraction of their main business, more than 40% of companies responded “within six months”. (Xinhua News Agency)
