Malaysia’s Economy Minister, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, stated that the country is making every effort to finalize fuel supply arrangements after June and will announce the progress of reserve expansion plans next month.
During an interview on Thursday, Akmal stated that Petronas is in discussions with potential suppliers. "We must ensure that we negotiate reasonable prices," he said. He added that while the government is managing the fiscal deficit, there is still flexibility to adjust the fuel subsidy policy. Malaysia has reduced the fuel subsidy quota for each citizen from 300 liters to 200 liters and implemented a work-from-home policy for civil servants to regulate fuel demand.
