Japanese Finance Minister declines to comment on yen intervention
Golden Ten Data, May 3 – Japan's Finance Minister Shunichi Katayama on Sunday refused to comment on whether the government intervened last week to support the yen. When asked about recent fluctuations, Katayama stated, "As the Finance Minister, I cannot comment at this stage. Such speculative behavior has been going on for some time." Earlier reports indicated that the Japanese government intervened in the foreign exchange market for the first time since 2024. An analysis of Bank of Japan accounts suggests that the scale of the intervention was approximately $34.5 billion.
