This marks Iraq's reopening of this land-based oil transportation route after a 13-year hiatus. The Rabia border crossing is located in Ninawa Province in northwest Iraq. It had remained closed for a long time following the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, only reopening this April. This border crossing is not far from the oil fields in Mosul and Kirkuk in northern Iraq.
