Telegram takes the lead over TON and reduces network fees.
- Telegram dominates TON and expands its use in cryptocurrencies.
- TON rates drop sixfold with new update.
- Blockchain TON accelerates transactions for Mini Apps.
Telegram has taken a decisive step in its relationship with The Open Network (TON). CEO Pavel Durov stated on Monday that the platform will replace the TON Foundation, assuming the role of the network's main validator.
This move marks a new phase for the project, which originated within Telegram itself. The initiative, created in 2018 by Pavel Durov and Nikolai Durov, was halted in 2020 following regulatory pressure from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) related to its initial coin offering.
After Telegram's departure, the community took over development through the TON Foundation, keeping the project active independently. In recent years, however, the company has once again approached the network through strategic partnerships. In January 2025, TON was defined as the exclusive blockchain for the Telegram Mini Apps ecosystem.
Fees in TON have dropped 6× — to nearly zero.
Next step — Telegram replaces the TON Foundation as the driving force behind TON and becomes its largest validator.
The focus shifts to tech superiority.

Among the most recent changes is a significant reduction in transaction fees. Costs have fallen from approximately US$0,0023 to about US$0,0005 per transaction, a decrease of almost six times. This initiative is part of a broader technical plan called MTONGA, an acronym for “Make TON Great Again”.
Another important advancement occurred in April with the implementation of Catchain 2.0. The new consensus mechanism reduced the block creation time from 2,5 seconds to just 400 milliseconds, representing a significant speed gain.
With this, the network began offering transaction completion in less than a second. This level of performance is considered essential to support payments and transfers within Mini Apps, where speed is a basic requirement.
The impact of the updates was also reflected in the market. Toncoin, the network's native cryptocurrency, saw a 6% increase after the announcement. At the time of reporting, the asset was trading at US$1,43, reflecting the increased interest surrounding the evolution of the TON ecosystem.

VIPTradFi Focus: Where Does the RWA Market Stand Today?
1. Crypto outperformed traditional equity indexes following the rate hike, but elevated interest rates remain a key constraint on cross-asset allocation. From September 12 to 18, BTC, ETH, and SOL gained 4.83%, 3.84%, and 9.96%, respectively, while the S&P 500 edged down 0.08%. The U.S. Dollar Index rose 1.11%, and the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield closed at approximately 4.998%. Improving risk appetite is therefore coexisting with elevated discount rates, raising the bar for RWA allocation: investors need to compare not only returns on the underlying assets, but also on-chain liquidity and collateral efficiency. 2. Growth in tokenized equities is occurring even as the overall RWA market remains under pressure. As of September 18, Distributed Asset Value across RWAs stood at $38.503 billion, down 1.13% week over week, while tokenized equities reached $3.056 billion, up 6.03%. This week's data are better explained by capital reallocating across different RWA segments than by a broad-based expansion of the entire RWA market. 3. For exchanges, the opportunity lies in connecting spot holdings, collateral, and derivatives. Reality's distributed asset value stands at approximately $155 million, while eligible rTokens can already be used within Bitget's UTA margin framework. Across CoinGlass's verifiable sample of 177 TradFi instruments, open interest reached approximately $11.498 billion, up 2.06% week over week, even as weekly trading volume declined 7.60%. The medium-term opportunity remains intact, but deeper utilization will depend on liquidity, collateral use, and sustained trading activity. 4.Assets to watch: BTC, ETH, SOL, NEAR, ZEC, gold, tokenized U.S. equities, COST. 5.Key metrics to watch: rToken collateral utilization, the durability of TradFi open interest and trading volume, and next week's employment and consumer data.
