Report: European Commission Drafts Adjustment to Methane Emissions Regulation Implementation Plan

Previously, oil and natural gas industry groups had called for a suspension of this law, warning that stricter provisions coming into effect in 2027 could disrupt the European Union's fuel imports. The U.S. government has also requested that the European Union exclude U.S. oil and natural gas from the scope of these rules. In this draft guidance to national agencies of EU member states, the Commission stated that during an energy supply crisis, countries could choose not to impose penalties for violations of the rules.
