Glonghui, May 7 — Driven by surging demand for artificial intelligence chips, the South Korean stock market has surpassed Canada to become the world’s seventh largest equity market. Data shows that the total market capitalization of South Korean listed companies has soared by 71% this year, reaching $4.59 trillion; during the same period, Canada’s stock market capitalization rose by only about 7%, to $4.5 trillion. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, both of which have broken the $1 trillion market capitalization threshold, have seen their share prices more than double this year. Both companies hold dominant positions in the AI chip sector, making their products and stocks highly sought after in the market.
