Golden Ten Data reported on May 13 that Indian refiners may be forced to slash Russian crude oil imports while coping with the ripple effects of the Iran war, as the U.S. waiver on sanctions for Russian crude oil may not be extended beyond this weekend. According to foreign media citing informed sources, the U.S. has not yet clarified whether it will extend the waiver policy, which allows countries including India to continue purchasing Russian crude oil after May 16. Data from Kpler shows that since May, India’s imports of Russian oil have reached a record 2.3 million barrels per day. However, if no new Russian oil shipments head to India in the future, the total monthly import volume is expected to fall to 1.9 million barrels per day.
