```htmlGolden Ten Data reported on May 13 that, according to Reuters, due to the heavy blow dealt by the U.S. blockade to Iran's oil export capacity, Iran is leveraging its control over the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the transit fees recently imposed on passing vessels, to fill its fiscal gap. The Iranian military stated that any country wishing to pass through the Strait of Hormuz must do so under Iran's "supervision," but did not specify how this supervision would be implemented. According to several ship brokers, in recent weeks Iran has required transiting vessels to obtain prior permission and charged a transit fee of up to $2 million per ship. Iranian military spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia said in an interview with Iranian state media Press TV: "Such coordinated control not only enhances Iran’s surveillance and sovereignty in the region, but will also generate revenues for the country equivalent to twice its oil income."```
