U.S. Republicans pressure the crypto industry, urging Fairshake Super PAC to increase spending in the midterm elections
Foresight News reported, citing Axios, that U.S. Republicans are increasingly dissatisfied with the political donations flowing into the crypto industry and have called on the pro-crypto super PAC Fairshake, which holds $165 million in funds, to clearly express support for Republican candidates in this year’s midterm elections. Republicans believe that, given the major progress they have made in promoting pro-crypto legislation such as the CLARITY Act, it is disappointing that Fairshake has not yet announced any election investment plans.
One of the main points of dispute is Ohio Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown. In 2024, Fairshake spent more than $40 million to defeat then-Senator Brown, but since then Brown’s attitude toward the crypto industry has noticeably softened. Republicans are concerned that Fairshake will avoid involvement in his current race. The situation of New Hampshire Congressman Chris Pappas has also provoked controversy, as his Stand With Crypto rating rose from “F” to “A” within eight months—Republicans had originally hoped that Fairshake would focus on targeting Pappas in the midterms.
In response, Fairshake supporters said it is still too early to make any statements and emphasized that the PAC is bipartisan, aiming to reward supporters and punish critics rather than unconditionally supporting Republicans. Some pro-crypto Republicans, such as the Winklevoss brothers, have already established independent groups dedicated to supporting Republican candidates.
