Italian energy company Alps Blockchain transforms idle Bolivian power plant into bitcoin mining facility
ChainCatcher news: According to Bits.media, the Italian energy company Alps Blockchain has partnered with the Bolivian company Qurubiqa to launch Bitcoin mining operations at an idle 127-megawatt natural gas power plant in Cochabamba, Bolivia. The mining facility currently consumes about 27 megawatts of electricity, with a hashrate of 1.23 EH/s, and plans to increase power consumption to 45 megawatts by the end of the year. The mining equipment uses electricity generated directly from the power plant, without connecting to the public grid. Due to the currency crisis and US dollar shortage in Bolivia, project participants settle in US dollars.
