LG to acquire Hisense’s TV business? Industry insiders: Communication is normal, other claims are speculation

Golden Ten Data reported on May 28 that, in response to rumors about LG Electronics executives coordinating with Hisense executives regarding business restructuring plans, including the possible sale of LG’s TV business unit, an industry insider close to Hisense stated that communication between companies is normal and the rest is speculation. At the end of March this year, TCL Electronics signed an agreement with Sony to establish a joint venture, which will undertake Sony’s TV, audio, and other home entertainment hardware businesses, with TCL Electronics as the controlling shareholder. Previously, Hisense had already acquired Toshiba's TV business. Industry insiders predict that Chinese companies' share in the global TV market will continue to rise. Omdia consumer electronics analyst Zhang Bing believes it is unlikely that Hisense will acquire LG's TV business, as LG Electronics ranked second globally in color TV industry revenue in 2025, just behind Samsung; LG TV ranked fourth in shipments last year, following Samsung, TCL, and Hisense. “It cannot be ruled out that LG Electronics might share resources and collaborate with Chinese contract manufacturers and brand companies within the TV supply chain.”
