United States: Regardless of payment, U.S. individuals and entities are prohibited from accepting services provided by the Iranian government.
In an updated statement dated May 29, the US Department of the Treasury stated: "Regardless of whether fees are paid, US individuals and entities are prohibited from accepting services provided by the Iranian government, including those related to security assurances for safe passage." Since the outbreak of the Iran war on February 28, shipping volume through the Strait of Hormuz has shrunk significantly, driving oil prices to soar. The White House has continued to send mixed signals regarding the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran.
