(1) The US AI company Runway plans to carry out a large-scale expansion in London, establishing a new European headquarters and investing over $200 million into the UK's AI ecosystem by the end of 2028. The company focuses on building "world models." (2) Recently, Runway completed a $315 million Series E funding round (with investors including General Atlantic, AMD Ventures, and Nvidia), reaching a valuation of $5.3 billion. The co-founder stated that London brings the company closer to major European clients such as BBC, Fremantle, and WPP, and the local talent pool is excellent. (3) World models are AI systems capable of learning from audio, images, video, and real-world data, differing from large language models that focus on language processing. The UK Minister for AI has welcomed this move. Following Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google, Runway is another US AI company making a large-scale expansion in London.
