Amidst the Iran situation, a Japanese oil tanker broke through the Strait blockade, successfully delivering 2 million barrels of crude oil to Japan.

⑴ The oil tanker "ENEOS Endeavor," operated by Japanese refiner ENEOS, arrived at the Kiire terminal in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, on Wednesday, carrying 2.15 million barrels of crude oil, approximately equivalent to Japan's domestic daily demand. The tanker transited the Strait of Hormuz in mid-May, becoming the second vessel to successfully cross and arrive in Japan after the outbreak of hostilities between the US-Israel and Iran. ⑵ After Iran effectively closed the strait, the Japanese government requested Tehran ensure the free and safe passage of vessels from all countries. According to Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the tanker did not pay any transit fees when passing through the strait. ⑶ The vessel is approximately 340 meters long and owned by a subsidiary; it departed from the UAE at the end of February but remained in the Persian Gulf due to the US and Israel's attacks on Iran. Last week, a tanker operated by Idemitsu Kosan's refinery became the first to arrive in Japan, transporting around 2 million barrels of crude oil. ⑷ According to the Petroleum Association of Japan, there are still seven Japan-linked tankers stranded in the Persian Gulf.
