US stock futures were trading higher on Wednesday as investors awaited the Federal Reserve's next monetary policy decision. The meeting is noteworthy as it is the first chaired by the institution's chairman, Kevin Warsh, at a time of heightened attention to US economic indicators.
Before the markets opened, S&P 500 futures were trading at 7.604,50 points, up 17,25 points, or 0,23%. Dow Jones futures were up 58 points, or 0,11%, to 52.528 points.
Nasdaq 100 futures were the best performers among the major indices, rising 149 points, or 0,49%, to reach 30.462,75 points. The Russell 2000, a benchmark for smaller-cap companies, climbed 8,10 points, equivalent to 0,27%, trading at 2.972,30 points.
The prevailing market expectation is that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged. Therefore, attention is focused on Warsh's speech and possible signals about the next moves in US monetary policy.
Recent inflation data continues to influence investor projections. The combination of persistent inflationary pressures and a labor market considered resilient has significantly reduced bets on interest rate cuts in the short term.
In addition to monetary policy, the geopolitical landscape remains on the radar. The market is closely monitoring developments in negotiations between the United States and Iran, especially regarding the potential effects on energy prices and global inflation.
On Tuesday, the enthusiasm seen earlier in the week waned due to uncertainties surrounding the agreement between the two countries. Despite this, authorities continue working to formalize an understanding by Friday. The text of the memorandum, comprising 14 points, is already circulating among analysts and market participants.
Among other assets monitored by investors, the VIX index, known as a barometer of Wall Street volatility, fell 49,68% to 16,41 points. Gold was trading at US$4.349,80 per ounce, down 0,11%.
In the cryptocurrency market, Bitcoin remained stable, trading at US$65.817,30, with a slight increase of 0,03%. Meanwhile, WTI crude oil for July delivery was trading at $74,99 per barrel, down 0,37%, as investors assessed the potential impacts of the agreement between the United States and Iran on the global energy supply.
