According to risk assessments based on 41 years of satellite imagery data, the Sahel region, Southern Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Central American Dry Corridor, and the Caribbean have been identified as the highest-risk areas, with some farmlands and pastures facing over a 50% probability of drought occurring in the coming months. The Food and Agriculture Organization pointed out that global temperatures are currently higher than usual, widespread conflict and food insecurity issues persist, and this round of El Niño will have an even more severe impact on vulnerable regions.
