Recently, Bitcoin and altcoins have been warned that the quantum computing threat poses a significant risk and that urgent action is needed.

While many altcoins have taken significant steps in this regard, a move has also come from the US.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order for quantum-resistant cryptographic technology.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Donald Trump signed two executive orders aimed at expanding the country’s quantum computing capabilities and accelerating the transition to quantum attack-resistant encryption technology.

According to the report, the US government aims to develop a scientifically significant quantum computer by 2028.

The first executive order aims to direct federal agencies, including the Department of Energy, to work with the private sector and academia to transition to quantum computing standards for scientific research by 2028.

According to the directive, the US government must transition cryptographic key systems used in large systems to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) by the end of 2030. Furthermore, digital signature systems must be replaced with PQC-based alternatives by the end of 2031.

The second decree addresses the threat of quantum-enabled cyberattacks that could invalidate existing encryption standards. It aims to prepare government agencies and security experts for quantum systems and strengthen security frameworks to protect critical infrastructure from quantum attacks that could break existing encryption systems faster than expected.

At this point, Coinbase’s Quantum Computing Advisory Council recently estimated that approximately 7 million Bitcoins could be vulnerable to future quantum attacks.

Finally, security firm Project Eleven also predicts that “Quantum Day,” when modern cryptographic systems will be broken, could come around 2030.
